Today Clingenpeel City opened our day, and then we promptly went into State Conventions. The Boomer and Sooner parties met separately and elected their candidates for the state elections which would come later in the day.
After lunch The Honorable George Nigh gave an inspiring speech in which he reminded the ladies that "time marches on" and "you can do it from here." He finished his presentation by telling the story of how he persuaded the legislature to change the state song from "Oklahoma a Toast" to the famous "Oklahoma." The delegates loved having him here today.
After The Honorable George Nigh left Girls State the election forum took place, The delegates got to hear their candidates for Governor and Lt, Governor answer questions provided by the staff. We then heard from Governor Mary Fallin.
The ladies then voted for their district and state officials. While ballots were being counted, the University of Oklahoma invited us to a movie screening.
Finally, district and state officials were announced, and the ladies celebrated with their friends.
